Hearing Aid Fittings & Repairs

Fitting & Fine Tuning

Hearing aids are not one-size fits all. Just like eyeglasses, your hearing aids have a prescription. At your hearing aid fitting, we will adjust your hearing aids to match your prescription and provide the right amount of volume and clarity for your hearing loss. At ASH Audiology, we use Real Ear Measurement, which helps confirm your hearing aids have been adjusted just right for your ears. Real Ear Measurement

Ears come in different shapes and sizes. Just like an opera house or theater has ‘acoustics,’ so do the inside of the ears. In order to account for the fact that everyone’s ears are shaped differently, we use a measurement called Real Ear that research proves is the best predictor for hearing aid success. To complete Real Ear Measurement, we place a flexible, soft, microphone inside your ear canal. Next, we place your hearing aid on your ear and you’ll listen to a recording. While you listen, the microphone in your ear measures exactly how much sound the hearing aid is putting into your ear. We use these measurements to ensure your hearing aid exactly matches your prescription.

Fine Tuning & Customization

After fitting your hearing aids to your prescription, we’ll ask you to tell us what you think about the sound quality, clarity, and volume. We’ll make some adjustments based on your feedback to ensure you feel comfortable. If you’re worried they will be too loud, we can gradually increase the volume of your hearing aids over several weeks or months to ease you into them. We will take all of your concerns about volume, noise, sound quality, and clarity into account when we fit your hearing aids, so please don’t hesitate to tell us if something doesn’t sound right.

Hearing Aid Checks & Maintenance

No matter if you purchased your hearing aids from us or somewhere else, we are happy to service them. Hearing aids are regularly exposed to sweat, earwax, dead skin, dirt, and dust. To keep them in good shape, they should be cleaned and checked regularly. We recommend you schedule a hearing aid tune-up every 3-6 months so we can clean your hearing aids and check they’re working properly. ASH Audiology offers a 4-Step Tune Up.

Hearing Aid Repairs

Bought your hearing devices somewhere else? No problem. We’ll fix any hearing aid. Whether they stopped working, have a cracked shell, need a replacement part, or don’t sound right, we’ll get you back up and running. We partner with all the major hearing aid manufacturers to ensure if we can’t fix the problem in-house, we can mail them in for repair. FAQs

Why should I buy hearing aids from ASH Audiology when I can get over-the-counter ones at a lower cost?

Over the counter aids are one-size fits all and are only meant for adults with mild hearing loss. At ASH Audiology, we take a more personalized approach. We customize your hearing aids to match your specific hearing loss, teach you how to use your hearing aids, and program your hearing aids to match your specific goals and lifestyle needs. You can ask for changes in sound quality or volume, and we can accommodate those changes. An over-the-counter hearing aid isn’t meant to fit your specific hearing needs. At ASH Audiology, your hearing needs are our first priority.

Are hearing aids tax deductible?

That depends. Yes, hearing aids are deductible but only if you itemize your medical expenses. If you do have itemized medical expenses, you can deduct the cost of hearing aids, hearing aid batteries, and hearing aid repairs and maintenance. You may also use your HSA or FSA (health savings account or flexible spending account) as a pre-tax way to purchase your hearing services and devices.

Does Medicare or private insurance cover the cost of hearing aids?

No, Medicare does not cover the cost of hearing aids. They do, however, cover the cost of your hearing evaluation when it’s medically necessary. Some Medicare Advantage Plans may offer extra benefits that may cover some or all of the costs associated with hearing aids. Sometimes, private insurance does cover the cost of hearing aids and often does cover the cost of your hearing evaluation too. This depends on the type of plan you have. To find out if you get full or partial coverage for hearing aids, contact ASH Audiology, and we’ll check your benefits for you. “From my 1st contact I have found the doctor & staff to be both personable & professional, which is comforting for any patient. Dr. Faivre walked me through all my options & identified the best hearing aids for my needs. She even followed up by phone to make sure I was adjusting to my new aids. All told, I have had a very positive experience. I have worn hearing aids for 15 years & this is by far the best experience I have had. Sounds corny, it really is life-changing.”
